Kilmuckridge 5-5 Kilmore 0-3

A tenacious and determined Kilmore side made Kilmuckridge work very hard in this year’s Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Rackard League Roinn C Camogie final. While Kilmuckridge did manage to lead from the 6th minute onwards, they were not allowed to relax. Kilmore never let up over the course of the hour.

Kilmuckridge had real strength in their forwards and this showed at several pivotal moments in the first half. Initially, Kilmore fullback Molly Moran dispelled several attacks with the help of her teammates. However, after a long period of pressure, Kilmuckridge finally broke through with goals from Kasey O’Connor and Róisín O’Meara. Kilmore’s Leah Wall kept her team in touch with two pointed frees and dangerous attacker Jemma Cousins also got a score. Just before halftime, Kilmuckridge struck a killer blow when Aoibhinn Egan pounced on a defensive error to score a third goal for her team.

Kilmore emerged for the second half even more determined and massively raised their intensity all over the field. The battle between Jenna Finn and Kasey O’Connor was particularly intriguing to watch. The terrific trio of Gráinne Hourihane, Heather Falconer and Robyn Kinsella kept Kilmore far away from their goal and after sixteen minutes of intensive play, Kilmuckridge finally managed to break the deadlock. This came after a stunning double save from Kilmore netminder Rebecca Foley. Unfortunately, on the third rebound the loose ball was swept into the net by Molin Knuth.

This score got the Alley girls going once more and they finished with further impressive scores from dynamic duo Róisín O’Meara and Kasey O’Connor. Kilmore’s final score came through Millie Bates. In the end they may have not stopped the Kilmuckridge juggernaut, but Kilmore won several admirers for their brave display in the final.
