Second half goals do the trick for Oulart

Oulart N.S 3-1 Horeswood 1-2

Two slightly fortunate second half goals proved the difference between Oulart and Horeswood in this year’s Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Rackard League MiniSeven’s Camogie final.

Horeswood came into final determined to complete a MiniSeven’s double after their success in the girls’ football final last week. They also were the first of two Horeswood teams playing that evening with the boys represented in the hurling final after. Oulart came into the final with strong intentions to ruin the party.

The first half was a keenly contested affair with Siobhán Sinnott and Eadaoin Kent getting a point each for their teams in the early exchanges. Siobhán played very well throughout the half and could have scored a terrific goal had Horeswood goalie Emer Hunt not pulled off a fantastic save. Edel Kehoe anticipated the rebound from this save however and her goal was the difference between the teams at halftime.

Horeswood got right back into it on the resumption of the half when Eadaoin Kent got a great goal. There was much drama then when both teams had huge chances only to see their efforts go just wide of the mark. The two vital goals soon came in quick succession and both from unexpected sources.

Siobhán Sinnott hit a long range free low and hard into the square and it somehow squeezed through the many bodies and into the Horeswood net with the help of a deflection. Moments later, there was a hot ball and Siobhán saw her effort go straight to the back of the net from the clash.

Horeswood fought back bravely despite these two blows and a late charge led by Jade Cleere was rewarded with a pointed Katie Kehoe free. It was evident to see that the Horeswood girls had put a lot of work into their camogie and they were just unlucky that the final pass never came off to put them through an impressive Oulart defence marshalled by Miria O’Dowd.
